I started going to car shows when I was 15...

Tell your parents you won't be adbudcted by a big scary fat ex convict named "butch" who will make you squeal like a pig out in the woods. That should cover every basis. They'll be so blindsided by that answer that you can walk out the door before they realize what hit them.
